Choose the type of shower door or enclosure that fits your bathroom
Sliding & Bypass Shower Doors
Sliding shower doors sometimes called bypass shower doors can be used on top of a bathtub or in a shower only application. Sliding shower doors are often used to save space in a smaller bathroom or where a toilet or cabinet may be in the way of a hinged or pivot door.
Hinged & Pivot Shower Doors
This type of tub and shower doors have a continuous hinge or pivot style swing-out door that usually has an attached side panel, but can be installed as a single door as well. These doors are most commonly ordered as a framed or semi-frameless style because the glass panels must have some frame around them to secure the panel, but can be ordered as frameless if you prefer. You must make sure you have the clearance to allow for the swing of the shower door. Neo-angle shower doors are usually made in this style of door.
Shower Enclosures & Glass Panels
Glass shower panels or shower enclosures are usually manufactured with heavier 3/8 or 1/2 inch glass. These are typically used with a walk-in shower where a door may not be needed. This style is most often seen in much larger bathrooms where there is plenty of room available. The shower head will need to be located appropriately so water does not spray into the open doorway.

Frameless Shower Doors
Frameless shower doors and tub enclosures have a less visible appearance and are sometimes used when you want to show off your ceramic, porcelain or natural stone tile work in the shower area. Frameless doors have a ‘richer” appearance and are usually made out of thicker 3/8” or 1/2” tempered glass panels.
Framed Shower Doors
These are the traditional shower doors found in most homes. They are very economical and come in many universal sizes to fit a wide range of applications. Framed shower doors have an aluminum frame around the door(s) and side panels for extra protection and support for the lighter 3/16” or 1/4” tempered glass.
Semi-Frameless Shower Doors
Semi-Frameless shower and tub doors are a “hybrid’ between framed and frameless shower doors. They have an affordable price similar to a framed shower door but have a sleeker appearance similar to a more expensive frameless shower door. These doors have a frame on the hinged side of the door and across the bottom, but usually, there is no frame on the top and handle side of the door.
Heavy Glass Shower doors
These shower doors and enclosures are usually made from a thicker 3/8” or 1/2” tempered glass. They are the top of the line shower doors and have a very rich and luxurious look to them. There are a few standard sizes for heavy glass doors, but they are usually considered a custom shower door. They can also be ordered with different metal finishes on the hinges and hardware. The thicker heavy glass is also what is used in most walk-in shower enclosures.
Steam shower doors
Steam shower units are a specialty shower door used in steam showers only. They are more positively sealed from top to bottom to avoid steam entering the main bathroom area. You must make sure your bathroom is equipped with the proper ventilation to avoid damage to surrounding walls from excessive moisture build up.
